Whew. What a day.
So, just after 7AM, I roll up to the Cascade 16 Cinemas for another enjoyable day at Living Hope Fisher’s landing. Bad news #1: Pastor Seth is on vacation. Great. Oh well, he’s been gone lots of times before, and he deserves a break now and then. So, we head inside the theater (#7, again.
) and start setting up. Around this time, we not the total lack of any muscians. You see, our regular worship guy had gone on vacation as well. He had not neglected to line up replacements, but…..the couple he found got sick, which left us band-less. Well, we managed to dig up somebody, and we had an acoustic worship set. Pretty cool, actually. Then we headed for the video. All was well, until, PROJECTOR OVERHEAT, lol. That broke our streak too.

To unwind, we headed up to the gorge again, this time to Elowah (sp) falls. Very pretty, and the spray from the falls was nice on a hot day. Then, we decided to hit Ikea and get me my french press. I found a huge, all glass and aluminum 32oz press for $13. Score. Then, we went into Best Buy not far from Ikea, just to look around. They had a magnolia area there….with….Martin Logan’s. Whee!!!! Never gotten to hear electrostats before. They sounded GREAT. They were just amazingly clear. It’s was flawless. Tiny little sub helping them though. They needed more firepower there. They were working with an awesome Sony SXRD projector too. The thing looked amazing. I thought it was a direct-view display at first! :O
As for how the press is working: My coffee from it tastes GREAT. I haven’t quite gotten used to how much beans and water to use, so this first cup is a little weak and watery. I’ll get it though!
I LOVE me some ML’s!
My .02 on french press (the ONLY way to have regular coffee at home!):
- make sure the beans are COARSE ground.
- pay attention to the steep time and get the coffee into a caraffe. Leaving it in the press will make the later cups bitter (you’re still brewing that whole time!)
Some of the ‘coffee guys’ here at work grind it fine (like auto drip). It doesn’t always press, causes messes, and leaves TONS of silt in the cup. Oh… and it doesn’t brew well because the steeping needs more surface area!
If you want the BEST cup of fresh brew, head down to stumptown annex. I’m not giving it away, but you’ll be surprised at how they make it

Oh… and don’t forget to keep fresh beans. Don’t freeze them, just keep them in a dark, airtight container.

Yes – Elowah Falls is correct. Nice little hike compared to the one we tackled last week. Next week we might do Whaclellah Falls. Should be fun.
Scott, thanks for the input on the coffee, now I don’t have to. And Jason – you will perfect the French Press within a week. I use about four ’scoops’ of grounds for mine personally (probably a little closer to 4 1/2).
Also – can’t stress enough how important fresh beans are. You’ll know when the beans are bad when you pour yourself a cup of coffee and it comes out…. with not a good taste.
