A few minutes ago, my mom hollers at me from down the hall, “what’s this red light on the toaster”?

I immediately realize that this is the indicator light for the toaster’s “bagel” mode. It has a little button with a bagel symbol by it, and red LED on the button that tells you when it is in bagel mode. I decided however, to help her learn technology.The ensuing conversation…..

Me: “I dunno, what is the symbol by the light?”

Mother: “I don’t know, it’s some indicator symbol”

Me: “Well, let’s think here, does it resemble something?”

Mother: “No, it’s technical, I don’t get it”

Me: “Are you sure it doesn’t resemble something you’d put it in a toaster?”

Mother (paranoid tone): “No, I don’t know what it could mean! It just looks like some technical symbol!”

Me: “No, it looks like a bagel”

Mother: “Oh!”
